The ship docked in Bridgetown. We took a tour which took us all over the island. First stop: Gun Hill Signal Station.
  Installed by the British militia in 1818, this was one of a series of signal stations situated 700 feet above sea level to detect enemies.

   

 

 

 

All of the signal stations were in sight of each other so they could notify others of enemy attacks. Visual communication was all they had. This is a shot of the path up to the station.

  Les climbed on the roof to get this shot of the lookout. From here British soldiers could see enemy ships coming ashore.
